When I saw Avatar I was blown away. It was practically a visual orgasm. The effects are stunning and captivating.
People have critisized the “simple storyline”, describing it as “Pocohontas with better graphics”. Okay, so the story is basic. Americans want valuable substance, native tribe is in the way of said substance, soldier is sent out and meets woman of said tribe, soldier falls in love and learns the ways of the tribe, soldier switches sides and defends tribe. The difference here is the invention and development of an entire world and civilisation. The Na’vi are an entirely new species. Their anatomy is perfect and flawless, with physically perfect proportions and beautiful colouring, and the director has created a civilisation with an in depth and detailed idea of their way of life.
I don’t pretend to be good at reviews, which is why this isn’t really one. I just wanted to say that, speaking from an artistic point of view, Avatar is one of the most stunning things I have ever seen.
Also, despite disagreements from my housemates, I really love this song.
